The caricature artist extraordinaire, Jan Op De Beeck has recently started a 'Happy Birthday' thread over on the NCN forum.
It's a great way to get to draw celebrities who you would never usually consider as subjects for caricatures.
Today's celebrity birthday is Steve McQueen who would have been 79 today.

WEDDING INVITATION

Here's a wedding invitation I did recently for a couple of friends of mine, Jill and Paul, who tied the knot a few weeks ago.
As if planning a wedding wasn't stressful enough, they had the added stress of the wedding venue going into receivership two months before the big day which left them with a race against the clock to book an alternate venue. To their credit, they managed to secure a booking in another venue for the same date and it turned out to be a brilliant wedding!!

BRUCE WILLIS

Here's Bruce Willis in the iconic role as the one man public avenger, John McClane from the 'Die Hard' trilogy. Yes, I know there were officially four Die Hard movies but I have no idea what the term is so I'm sticking with 'trilogy'.
He's 54 years old this week so Yipee Kay Ay Brucie!!!

Even if Liverpool don't win the league this season, beating Man Ure 4-1 at Old Trafford has got to be up here with the best moments in the club's history.
I listened to the entire match on the radio and was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing. Who needs Sky Sports???

ALBERT EINSTEIN

Often, after I draw a famous person, I read up about them and look for some interesting facts or bits of info that I can bore my poor unfortunate friends with. There are far too many about Einstein to mention but one that stands out for me is that at the age of 15, he failed his University entrance exam. Not sure how true that actually is but it makes me feel so much better knowing that....

JOHN BANVILLE

It was World Book Day earlier this week so I thought I'd do a sketch of my favorite author John Banville.
To me, he's a literary genius and I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite novel but 'The Book of Evidence', 'Mephisto' and 'The Sea' are one's that stand out. His use of the English language is so unique that he can leave you dumbstruck in the middle of a sentence, while describing the most mundane thing. Sheer class.

THEODOR SEUSS GEISEL

'Green Eggs and Ham', 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'Fox in Socks' were just a few of the many Dr. Seuss books I read as a little boy (and to some extent, as a not so little boy). Funnily enough, Dr. Seuss wasn't actually a 'Dr'. Apparently, he used Dr. in his pen name as an acknowledgement of his father's unfulfilled hopes of him earning a Doctorate from Oxford University!! Anyway, his writing and brilliantly surreal illustrations are nothing short of legendary and still as popular today as they were back then.

DUFFY

She may be small in size but she's got one hell of a voice and deservedly walked away with three Brit awards during the week.

BOLT

Went to see the new Disney movie 'Bolt' at the weekend. The story itself is pretty predictable but it's brilliantly made nonetheless. The highlight for me though, was Rhino the Hamster. He's without a doubt one of the best animated and funniest movie characters I've ever seen.

CHRIS MARTIN

Yet another celebrity who has one of those 'difficult faces'.
I have tried numerous occasions in the past and failed but I think I may have come closer with this attempt.

Meanwhile, Coldplay have just released their new single, 'Life in Technicolour ii'. They've put together a great video to go with it.........

Whether we like it or not, this is the man to see us through the fantastically stupendous mess that our national economy is currently in.

The subject this month is the man who's had more image changes than Michael Jackson has had new noses. David Bowie.

FINISHED MORRISSEY

Well, I finally finished it and I'm rather pleased with the way it's turned out but there are one or two niggley little things I might go back to and change. Underneath, just for the hell of it, is the original sketch that I began with in Photoshop.

This is my second attempt at Morrissey as I was never really that happy with the first one I did last year.....how time flies.
This time I chose a more accurate reference photo and think it's made a huge difference.

THE BOSS

I've been trying to draw Bruce Springsteen for a while now and never managed to capture that amazing and apparently endless energy he has on stage. I think I've come pretty close with this one but I'll keep plugging away.....

Decided to expand on this one slightly but I've already reached that stage where I begin to become too attached to a sketch and am frightened of completing it!! Silly, I know, but I'm determined to persevere nonetheless......
